When you are working remote—whether it’s a Chetwynd logging block or a drilling rig north of Fort Nelson—you are the frontline of healthcare. Our Professional Medical stream delivers the advanced Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Advanced First Aid (OFA 3) training required for high-responsibility roles. Train with experienced medics who know exactly what it takes to manage trauma in austere environments when the helicopter is still an hour away.
Advanced First Aid (OFA 3): Focuses on workplace compliance (WorkSafeBC). It trains you to be an Occupational First Aid Attendant, managing injuries on job sites until an ambulance arrives.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR): A higher medical standard (Red Cross). It allows you to work on ambulances, with fire departments, or as a licensed medic. It covers a broader scope of pharmacology (drugs), symptom relief, and complex medical conditions.
Yes. Upon successful completion of our Red Cross EMR course, you are eligible to apply for licensing through the EMALB (Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board) in BC. You must pass both our course and the provincial licensing exams to practice as a licensed EMR.
You should take our EMR Bridging Course. This intensive program builds on the trauma skills you already have and adds the medical/pharmacology components required for EMR. It is significantly shorter and more cost-effective than taking the full EMR course.
Both Advanced First Aid and EMR certifications are valid for 3 years. However, to maintain your provincial license (if you are licensed with EMALB), you may have annual Continuing Competence requirements.
Yes. Basic Life Support (BLS) is a mandatory prerequisite for the EMR course. If you do not have a current BLS ticket, we can schedule that for you immediately prior to your EMR start date.
From urban fire halls to remote drilling rigs, Up-Beat First Aid trains the professionals who keep the Peace Region safe.
Dawson Creek & Chetwynd Campuses: Our primary simulation labs are fully equipped with stretchers, oxygen kits, and trauma trainers for immersive EMR and OFA 3 scenarios.
Fort St. John & District: We regularly train industrial safety officers and municipal fire crews who require advanced certification for site access.
Remote Operations: We support the Horn River and Montney basins. For large industrial projects, we can deploy instructors to your camp to certify your medical team on-site, minimizing downtime and travel costs.
Student Accommodation: Traveling for a 2-week course? Contact us for recommendations on local accommodations near our training centers.
